Events - Winter Wonderland - Paint Winter Scene Cards in Watercolour and Acrylic

A great opportunity is coming to us in November to make personal winter cards! It is always handy to have a card ready to give to a family member or friend. Janice Opie will first lead us in painting a winter landscape scene in watercolour (example attached below). This will be followed by Janice Low who will guide us through an acrylic winter birch card painting. Please see below for details and participation response requested.

Location: School of Horticulture, Administration Building

Located on the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens,

Cost: Free

**To ensure sufficient supplies, please rsvp to Audrey.t.barclay@gmail.com by noon on November 6th with your participation in the watercolour, acrylic or both and if you will require a parking pass for that day.

Materials to bring

1] Watercolours:

- blues and browns (or whatever you think will work as per the picture you see
below)
- brushes - about one size 10 round and a small round with a pointy tip to make
tiny trees on this tiny painting
- a couple of sheets of paper towel,
- pallet
- water container
- plastic to cover tabletop

2] Acrylics:

- acrylic paint: white, black, raw umber and bronze or other metallic paint for sparkle
[some will be available to share]
- brushes – 3 small: 1 straight cut,1 angle cut and 1 small round
- water container
- a couple of sheets of paper towel
- plastic to cover tabletop

Materials that will be provided:

1] Watercolours

- 4x6 90 lb paper taped to a support [and corresponding envelope]
- hair blowers to remove tape to avoid damage to card (makes glue give up)

2] Acrylics:

- 5 x 6.5 card paper and corresponding envelope
- pallet

[It is recommended that you supply the paint, however, if you do not have either watercolour or acrylic paints, there will be a small amount available for sharing to complete the demo paintings😊]

Artist Bios:

Janice Opie lives in Niagara Falls, is a watercolour instructor at Niagara Falls Art Gallery and will be holding one day, in depth, workshops at Riverbrink Art Museum and in Puerto Vallarta next year. She likes to share her passion for this medium and hopes you go home with some gold nuggets of knowledge regarding watercolours. Janice Low is a visual artist, a painter and photographer. Originally from the Thousand Islands area, she lived many years in Winnipeg where she raised her family and had her professional career in education. Since relocating to the Niagara region, she has been active with the St. Catharines Photo Club, Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre, Parkway Artists Guild, St. Catharines Art Association, RiverBrink Art Museum, Niagara Falls Art Gallery, Dundas Valley School of Art, Rosberg Gallery, Objects to Desire in Grimsby, Niagara Plein Air Group, Niagara Poets and Painters, the City of Niagara Falls Night of Art and Annual Art Show where her painting entitled "She Waits" earned First Place.
