CATHY CULLIS

Landscape painter, working in the medium of soft pastel.

Cathy is a representational artist working almost exclusively in the pastel medium. Her impressionistic scenes often depict a particular viewpoint of a scene with a focus on the play of shapes, the patterns of light, line or movement.
"I have always been fascinated by the beauty and strength of the natural world so it's not surprising that my subject of choice is primarily landscape. In each of my paintings I try to interpret what it was about this particular scene that caught my eye or invoked some emotional response. Nature reaches out to us in so many ways, whether it is through sunlit clouds, wind-blown trees, majestic mountains, quiet streams or crashing waves. It is all just so real and it can be comforting to connect with that reality even for just a moment."
Her professional development is self directed and includes workshops with well known professional Canadian and American artists as well as studying online with American pastel artists Cindy Crimmin, Marla Baggetta and Karen Margulis.
Awards include the Duggan Canadian Landscape Award;(SCA)2023, Honorable Mention (PAC) 2006, 2023 and the Juror's Choice Award, (North East National Pastel Exhibition) 2008
Cathy has attained Master status with PastelArtists.ca (PAC) and is a Master Circle member with the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) Elected Member with the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA). She is a Signature member with the Pastel Society of Eastern Canada (PSEC) and is an Active member with the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA).
