Esa will demonstrate his painting process on metal canvas informing us about various techniques and processes in painting on this surface. Members can sit back and watch, taking in the nuances of this painting technique and are encouraged to ask questions. Esa teaches classes and workshops throughout the country at creative art conventions, special events, private studios, art chapters and Painting guilds. Esa teaches a wide variety of subjects and his enthusiasm and love of painting makes him a popular teacher.

Esa will have a selection of metal canvases [some etched and plain] for purchase if you wish to try out this method and surface on your own. They are $25 /panel and members can pay with cash on the day.

Artist Statement

Painting daily is important to me, trying to master my skills, learning new approaches. There is always a painting in progress. I try to have an overall plan of what I am going to paint. In the beginning, I might have some idea of what I will paint, but at the end, the painting might be totally different from what I had in mind, than when I started. I like to experiment on different kinds of painting surfaces, such as metal, slate or quartz, besides canvas. At times, I create textured, raised effects on a painting. I apply thick paint with rough brushstrokes, creating an interesting, dynamic texture on a painting. I used to paint with oils and watercolors, but for many years now, my preferred painting medium has been acrylic. Currently I am creating my art on metal canvas and on metal sculptor panels.
