Esa Nieminen has been an artist for over 45 years. He has a studio-gallery in Port Colborne where people can visit him and see his latest art work. He is on the South Niagara Artist Studio Tour October 13-14th . His website is esastudiogallery.com
There is always a painting in progress, but even still, Esa might start something completely new. "I try to have an overall plan of what I am going to paint, but sometimes when I feel spontaneous, I just start painting. In the beginning, I might have some idea what I will paint, but at the end, the painting might be totally different from what I had in mind when I started." His artwork covers a wide spectrum of subjects from landscape to modern to abstract. Esa used to paint with oils and watercolours, but for many years now, he has been painting with acrylics only.
Members may bring their own materials since Esa will be giving a demo and we can paint along or sketch in your sketchbook, whatever you prefer. He will be doing the demo on a canvas. You can bring your own if you would like to participate, [small is recommended as we have limited space] as well as Acrylic paints [colours of your choice]. Esa loves to work with metallic paints. Bring some brushes, palette knives, paper towel, water container, plastic table cover and of course, a great attitude and smile.
Esa may be able to bring some of his homemade metal canvas and/or homemade brushes for sale on the day of demo. Please bring cash if you are interested in purchasing.
