Events - Caricatures with Pete Malaguti

The Demo

Pete says;
Caricatures are intended to be unflattering. They are NOT supposed to be lovely portraits ... we will exaggerate facial features and make them out of proportion.
We'll use the same supplied photo as a warm up. We'll study the HEAD, the EYES, NOSE, MOUTH, EARS. We'll work on these various features and draw them all together in an unflattering caricature.
We'll draw them in either, Pencil, or Ink with no colour. We'll focus on the structure and likeness of the drawing.
Then for the rest of the class, you'll do the same with the photo that you brought.
As a result you'll have an unflattering, yet recognizable image of the "Celebrity" you brought in.

Artist Bio

Pete has worked in 2 different Visual Art careers ... Advertising as an Illustrator, Graphic Designer, Art Director and Creative Director and in Aerospace as a Senior Technical Illustrator.

Pete loves to draw ... EVERYthing, including Caricatures.

During his career, Pete has done artwork for the Financial Post as a Freelance and when working in Aerospace, Pete did caricatures as Retirement gifts and Birthday Cards for the staff, creating a Poster on which their fellow staff members would all sign or a folded Bristol Board card all done with Magic Markers, including an anecdote, preferably a mistake or an embarrassing event at a Business meeting which I could Illustrate and expand upon, to make it personal, and 2 or 3 good photos.

Then the finished card or poster would be sent around, hopefully without the subject seeing it, so everyone would sign it with a crude comment or Best Wishes.
The organizers would then get it framed, if it was the Poster, and presented at a lunch.
Pete has created 100's of these cards, making keepsakes and fun to look at years later.
