Join us at the Queenston Post Office located at 4 Queenston Street on September 13th to celebrate the launch of a new postal cancel (the mark applied to indicate that a stamp has been used) and learn more about Queenston postal history and the story of Laura Secord.
Collecting cancellations or postal markings is a unique part of stamp collecting. Collectors travel the world stopping at each post office for a cancel mark. These collections are very distinct in contrast to simple stamp collecting.
Design by Queenston resident artist and Parkway Artists' Guild member Kathy Thomas, the cancel depicts the home from which Canadian heroine Laura Secord departed on her epic 32 kilometre journey to warn British forces of an impending American attack during the War of 1812.
