Events - "Rooted in the Garden" Outdoor Workshops - Free to the Public

Sept 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30p.m.

Catherine Brassard: Slate Coaster Painting
Participants will be guided to recreate their favourite butterfly, or flower from the gardens onto a keepsake slate coaster. Participants could even use an image right from their camera. Once dry it will be sprayed with a clear varnish, making it washable and protected. The artist can quickly sketch out the image for any hesitant novice and guide them through the painting process. A family would be able to make a set for themselves or an individual can leave with one of a kind keepsake.

Kathy Thomas: Celebrating the Canadian flag
In celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, recreate the Canadian flag with its iconic Maple Leaf printed from real Maple Leafs. Participants will be provided 8 x 10 cardstock and leaves for stamping. On the two sides where the red stripes or blocks appear, there will be preprinted word art in red ink describing the maple leaf Canadian History and how it's a reflection of Canada.

Audrey Barclay: Woven Craft Stick Butterfly
The artist will guide participants to create a colorful woven butterfly with all materials provided. Participants will be taking home their own butterfly creation as a keepsake of their day at the Niagara Botanical Gardens.

Sept 9 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Tony Smith: Scraper Board
The artist will demonstrate the scraper board techniques and guide participants in producing a small finished work of art. 5" x 7" prepared inked scaperboard and scraping tools will be provided for participants to try it and create something in 15 to 30 minutes to take home.
